What is FSC certified paper?
Our mints are always packed with a luxury paper. This is not only to protect the mints but also to have more communication space. The paper that we use is FSC certified. But why do we use FSC certified paper instead of normal paper? Read further and find out!
Did you know…
Deforestation accounts for 15% of global CO2 emissions on an annual basis and therefore plays a major role in climate change. Did you know that 36 football fields of forest disappear every minute?!? In addition to trees clearing the air for us, people (1 billion) and animals (80% of the animals live in a forest) depend on the forest, because they live there. The disappearance of forests means that these people and animals lose their habitat. Time to change something right?
This is how FSC works
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international organization dedicated to forest conservation and management. Their method is as follows:
- The loggers take forest inhabitants into account (the animals and the people) and work in safe working conditions
- An FSC forest is divided into different sections and every year new trees are harvested in one section. That box is then left alone for 30 years so that it can fully recover and then be harvested again.
- The wood is monitored throughout all processes and, in the end, assessed by an independent certifier.
What have they achieved?
The FSC quality mark has been around for 25 years now. In the meantime, they have already certified 200 million hectares of forest (50 times the area of the Netherlands). This is not only very good for the climate, but also for the people and animals that depend on the forest.
