FAQ

We can talk about Max’s Mints on and on for hours, but we won’t do that to you! We have, however, collected the most frequently asked questions for you and tried to answer them as well as possible. Is your question not listed? Let us know and you’ll find it here soon too!

Ingredients

Which ingredients are used in Max’s Mints?

Max’s Mints are made from organic sugars (corn syrup and dextrose), natural flavorings and nothing else! At Max, we find it important not only which ingredients you can find inside the product, but especially what’s not inside of it. The mints are vegan (gelatin free, this is not standard for mints) and you won’t find any chemical sugar substitutes or artificial colors, flavors and fragrances in it.

Why are Max’s Mints made from sugar and not sugar-free?

One of the reasons why we started Max’s Mints is because we noticed that nowadays there are so many products available based on chemical sugar substitutes. Of course, we all know that eating (too) much sugar is not good for you. We do believe that it is better to consciously enjoy a (sugar) mint than to mindlessly eat away a box of sugar substitutes. Products that, in our view, present themselves as something that they are not.

And natural sugar substitutes?

We have not yet been able to find a natural sugar substitute that is a good alternative to the sugar in Max’s Mints. We keep a close eye on developments in case something comes along that makes us change our mind. And in that case, you are the first to hear about it!

Why is there palm oil in Max’s Mints and does it have a quality mark?

The palm oil in Max’s Mints is used as an adjuvant. This means that a small amount of palm oil is mixed through the ingredients so that the mints release from the machine after pressing and don’t stick. We are aware of the adverse effects of palm oil on the environment. Therefore, we hope to be able to replace this in the future with another ingredient that can fulfill the same function. But, once again, it concerns very small quantities, and the palm oil is certified organic and RSPO (Round table for Sustainable Palm Oil).

Why is palm oil not among the ingredients?

Max’s Mints follows the general legal requirements in the Netherlands when it comes to the ingredient declaration. Because the palm oil in Max’s Mints is an excipient it doesn’t belong in the ingredient declaration according to the Dutch law.

Why are there flavors in some flavors of Max’s Mints?

Max’s Mints are made from 100% natural ingredients. The aromas, therefore, do not consist of synthetic elements but are made from a composition of natural ingredients. We prefer to use essential oils as flavorings, but if they don’t exist or do not give sufficient taste, they are supplemented by natural aromas. For us, the ideal mix between tasty and good!

Brand and product

What is the nutritional value of Max’s Mints?

One mint weighs 0.6 grams and contains 2.4 kcal. If you consciously deal with your daily diet, a mint must fit in perfectly! Still, of course, it is not the intention that you eat an entire box of Max’s Mints at once, although we must honestly say that we can hardly put away the can after one mint …;)

Not all the flavors are fresh and yet the brand is called Max’s Mints, what’s up with that?

For us, the word mints stand for powerful, mature and surprising sweets. And that is exactly what you can expect from Max! A surprising taste in your mouth!

Packaging and sustainability

Is the tin packaging of Max’s Mints sustainable?

Tin is one of the few materials that can be recycled indefinitely without any loss of quality. In the Netherlands, we currently recycle around 96% of the can. This is separated from the rest of the waste with large magnets before it is reprocessed. In addition, you can help with recycling by, for example, using the can to store your earphones or tampons!

Are there Max’s Mints refill packs available?

Not yet but it is on our wish list to launch in the future! So, keep an eye on Max’s Mints, who knows you’ll find it in the stores soon!

Will Max’s Mints do even more to make the brand as sustainable as possible?

In addition to trying to make Max as sustainable as possible (e.g. 100% organic, 100% natural and vegan), we also think of the packaging and the packaging process. For example, the mints are packaged in a fun and infinitely recyclable can that is done by sheltered employment. People with a distance to the labor market will find a place to work again! Finally, we set ourselves the goal of producing energy-neutral in the long term. We’re not that far yet, but we’re working on it!

I can’t find Max’s Mints at the Chamber of Commerce, what’s up with that?

Max’s Mints is part of the social enterprise Brix Food. You can find Max’s Mints at the Chamber of Commerce under the trade name Brix Food.

Is Max’s Mints a social enterprise?

Social enterprises are characterized by the fact that they want to contribute to solving a social problem with their product or service. Profit is, therefore, not a goal for a social enterprise. Brix Food and Max’s Mints were founded with the mission to help as many people as possible to eat healthier. And since mints are the 4th most eaten type of candy in the Netherlands, this seemed like a good starting point. In the long term, it is the intention that Brix Food will also start up and support other projects with its income and make healthier food easier for more people. But, in order to achieve this, we have to sell a lot more mints :).
